Maren Winkler is a singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Bochum, Germany. She is known as the front singer of the indie pop rock band “Girl and the Fox” and has now realised her solo project “maren.” in Bochum and Reykjavík, working together with producer Marius Tilly and Icelandic drummer Magnús Trygvason Eliassen.

Her deep and warm singing reminds us of well-known voices like Janine Cathrein (Black Sea Dahu), Elena Tonra (Daughter), Tori Amos or even Björk.
With a love for harmony singing á la The Staves and Bon Iver like guitars and keys her first EP tells us stories about friendship, love and mental health struggles and feels like a warm blanket on a cold winter’s day.

Born and raised in the Ruhr area in Germany, she calls Iceland her “second home”. Some say you can hear how this country and its nature have influenced her songwriting. She started playing the piano when she was 5 and gradually taught herself guitar and bass. Joining several choirs since high school has shaped her love for singing and building up harmonies. “The Darkness” is her first single.
