EP „Just Be Kind“ Out Now

Wow. My EP “Just Be Kind” is finally out! What a fantastic project it was! It was so much fun, so much work and I learned SO much! I also got to know new amazingly talented people, musicians, photographers, videographers, producers etc. and also got to work with my dear, dear long-time friends. This all wouldn’t have worked without THE money. That’s why I want to say a big and warm “THANK YOU!” again to Pop NRW and Landesmusikrat NRW for the funding!!! And now I once more want to thank aaaaaaall the brilliant human beings who came with me on this journey. Let’s welcome this beautiful little piece of art to the world!

Single „Far Away“

Maren wrote „Far Away“ already more than 10 years ago when she first moved to Iceland. Performed for the first time ever in front of the Reykjavík university choir in 2013 it has been part of each and every concert Maren has played. Now there is finally a full band version of this special song. When the flugelhorn, played by Hannah Rós Sigurðartóttir, evolves during the first chorus one gets taken away on the wings of the very unique sound of this instrument. It gives the song a whole new twist.

Single „More than you can take“

„More Than You Can Take” came to Maren after attending a concert of the brilliant Bon Iver last summer in Germany. With this song she pays tribute to his first record “For Emma Forever Ago” which can even be heard in the recording of the slightly out of tune acoustic guitar and the open tuning. Magnús Trygvason Eliassen, a well-known Icelandic drummer, gives the song the special drum sound it needed, and the voices of her long time friends Ana Meritxell Joachim and Tristan Berger are melting together with Maren‘s so perfectly we all get reminded why we love listening to harmonies. In „More Than You Can Take“ Maren brings together her love for Folk Music with a hint of Country (Hear that slide guitar?) and shows how multi-layered her music is.

Videoshooting

Recently I had my music video shoot together with the brilliant Bülent Kirschbaum and my dear friend and very talented dancer and performer Sarlene Mophia – we had a nice and luckily (almost) dry day in the forest and shot the video for my first single “The Darkness”. But see for yourself what we were...Continue reading...
